On Tuesday January 9th, about 100 people gathered to hear from Mark Adams of the McLean County Regional Planning Commission about the current housing crisis in Bloomington-Normal. Several members of the Revivalists were in attendance, but before long, much of the room was in agreement that we needed bottom-up solutions to the current shortage of about 7000 units:
Upzoning, removing parking mandates, historic building reuse, and general code updates to allow for more denser housing.
The public forum and input session will all be added to an eventual plan with policy recommendations to our local governing bodies. Stay tuned as we try to turn up the heat on officials.
